- Background
- Plays important roles in the production of 11-cis retinal and in visual pigment regeneration. The soluble form binds vitamin A(all-trans-retinol), making it available for LRAT processing to all-trans-retinyl ester. The membrane form, palmitoylated by LRAT, binds all-trans-retinyl esters, making them available for IMH(isomerohydrolase) processing to all-cis-retinol. The soluble form is regenerated by transferring its palmitoyl groups onto 11-cis-retinol, a reaction catalyzed by LRAT. The enzymatic activity is linearly dependent of the expression levels and membrane association.

At 2-8 °C unless the datasheet says otherwise. Do not freeze a kit that is not marked for freezing.
How long is an opened kit stable?
It depends on the component. The Kit Components table on this page lists the storage condition for each item after opening.
What should I do if the shipment arrives warm?
Photograph the package and contact us the same day. Do not use the kit until we have confirmed it is still within specification.

My background is too high. What should I check?
The usual causes are insufficient washing, contaminated buffers, or too much detection antibody. Our Protocol pages cover the full troubleshooting sequence.
Can I run fewer wells than the kit provides?
Yes. Dismountable microplates let you use part of a plate and reseal the rest with the desiccant supplied.
