- Background
- Beclin-1(BECN1), also known as ATG6 or VPS30, has a central role in autophagy, a process of programmed cell survival, which is increased during periods of cell stress and extinguished during the cell cycle. Beclin-1, may play a role in antiviral host defense. It protects against infection by a neurovirulent strain of Sindbis virus. Beclin-1 participates in the regulation of autophagy and has an important role in development, tumorigenesis, and neurodegeneration. A progressively reduced Beclin-1 expression is reported to correlate with the primary tumor growth of squamous cell carcinoma and adenocarcinoma of the lung. Caspase-mediated cleavage of Beclin 1 promotes crosstalk between apoptosis and autophagy.

At 2-8 °C unless the datasheet says otherwise. Do not freeze a kit that is not marked for freezing.
How long is an opened kit stable?
It depends on the component. The Kit Components table on this page lists the storage condition for each item after opening.
What should I do if the shipment arrives warm?
Photograph the package and contact us the same day. Do not use the kit until we have confirmed it is still within specification.

My background is too high. What should I check?
The usual causes are insufficient washing, contaminated buffers, or too much detection antibody. Our Protocol pages cover the full troubleshooting sequence.
Can I run fewer wells than the kit provides?
Yes. Dismountable microplates let you use part of a plate and reseal the rest with the desiccant supplied.
